Locating a great value London hotel can sometimes feel like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The fact is, London is widely reputed to be the second most expensive city in the world (after Tokyo) and therefore cheap hotel rooms can seem like an impossibility. However, by following a few simple rules in this regard, lower rates could still be on the cards.

First of all, steer clear of the west of London; especially around Kensington, Mayfair… those prestigious areas where extortionate room rates will be commanded. Instead, head farther north, east and south and the farther you venture out of the central area, the more likely you will find a reasonable rate.

Having been a professional travel writer for a number of years and been lucky enough to travel to hundreds of destinations in 26 countries to date, I have to put my hands in the air and admit to the fact that I have fallen pray to the advertising gimmicks of the low cost airlines. And during that time I have learnt that these campaigns really are nothing more than gimmicks!

Like anyone else, if I can save quite a few pounds on flights to a certain destination, I am going to jump at it and this is why I did travel with low cost airlines for a time. However, when I reflect on the level of service that I have generally received, in comparison with the more traditional airlines, the few pounds saved no longer looks so appealing.

You see, I have learnt that the low cost airlines use this title as a convenient excuse to deny their passengers an acceptable level of basic customer service and actually make an art of ripping people off in every other conceivable way. As I have a trip planned to this part of Australia later on in the year, I am delighted to be able to talk about the magnificent city that is Perth. Apparently, Perth is one of the most isolated cities in the entire world, with the nearest large city being located thousands of miles away. This does not seem to hold the people of Perth back, however, as this city still manages to exude vibrancy and a very cosmopolitan air.

Accommodation in the city is of a particularly high standard, hotels in Perth do cater for all budgets. Accommodations range from the modest but very comfortable two and three star, right up to more luxurious five star hotels.
