Locating a great value London hotel can sometimes feel like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The fact is, London is widely reputed to be the second most expensive city in the world (after Tokyo) and therefore cheap hotel rooms can seem like an impossibility. However, by following a few simple rules in this regard, lower rates could still be on the cards.
First of all, steer clear of the west of London; especially around Kensington, Mayfair… those prestigious areas where extortionate room rates will be commanded. Instead, head farther north, east and south and the farther you venture out of the central area, the more likely you will find a reasonable rate.
Whilst in London, it may also be a good idea to lower your usual star preference rate. For example, if you usually prefer a four star property, lower this to at least a three star, better still, two even. This way you will look at saving yet more money during your stay in the capital.
Some well known budget chains offer reasonable accommodation in London. These companies will sneakily charge more than their hotels in other cities, but they will still represent excellent value for money.
